Two of Toronto's top Black foodies to talk about racism in the food industry tonight

Jun 10 2020, 5:37 pm

Over the last couple weeks, the proverbial volume-knob on conversations about racism and the Black Lives Matter movement has been turned up, and many have been tuning in.

And — as with any topic involving social structures — food, cuisine, and restaurants serve as important parts of the conversation.

For those interested in learning more about race and its role in Toronto’s food scene, Ryan Hinkson (Eat Famous) and Chef Adriane Forte (Top Chef Canada, Chopped Canada, Chef du Jour, Forte Feeds, and Netflix’s Restaurants on the Edge) are offering that chance.

Hinkson will be hosting a virtual conversation with Forte on Instagram Live tonight, June 10, starting at 9 pm.

“Me and my brother [Forte] are going to have an open, honest convo about being black, talented AF, and how that equates to success and stress in the food scene here in The Six,” reads Hinkson’s post promoting the event.

“I implore everyone to watch and participate in the discussion.”

Anyone with questions or suggestions for topics of conversation are encouraged to message Hinkson or Forte through Instagram ahead of the Live.
