As winter weather continues to dominate the forecast, provincial police are warning drivers of the dangers of not cleaning snow and ice from vehicles before hitting the road.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt shared a short video clip on his Twitter feed that shows a vehicle driving on a Greater Toronto Area (GTA) highway before being hit with ice from a vehicle driving ahead of it.

The video was initially shared on Reddit, where some 1,500 people have commented. And while it’s unclear of exactly which highway this took place, drivers everywhere can learn from this.

By provincial law, drivers are required to remove all snow and ice that’s accumulated on a vehicle, as it poses a danger to other motorists on the highway if it were to fall off.

If a driver is found guilty of this, they can face a fine of up to $500.

As we head into the brunt of winter weather, make sure to clear your vehicles of snow and ice, as you can see from this video, serious damage can happen in a matter of seconds.
