Police say the man who killed four members of an Oshawa family and wounded a fifth was a relative from out of town.

Durham Regional Police say the 48-year-old man from Manitoba showed up uninvited early Friday morning and attacked the family. According to police, the man shot himself and died after the murders.

Officers responded to the Parklane Avenue home in Oshawa around 1:20 am Friday. Five people were found dead inside, including the killer, and a sixth woman was alive but suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police say the woman was in her 50s, and was taken to hospital but is expected to survive.

The four victims bring the total deaths by homicide in Durham Region for 2020 to eight.
