Ontario's Best Butter Tart Festival is back this summer
Looking for a sweet escape from Toronto this spring? You can drive out to Midland for an all-day street festival dedicated to the ultimate Ontario dessert this June!
Billed as the world’s largest butter tart festival, Ontario’s Best Butter Tart Festival and Contest is back for another year and boasts 150,000 butter tarts of all sizes and flavours for sale from over 60 butter tart makers, as well as a marketplace populated with bakers and artisans.
There’s a bake-off too. Amateur and professional bakers will go head-to-head in hope of being crowned Ontario’s Best Butter Tart in divisions for traditional, fusion, and best in show.

Aside from the sweet little tarts studded with pecans (or raisins – if you’re a monster), look forward to the street festival featuring buskers, concerts, and street performers.
Lastly, those looking for a way to burn off their sugar rush can partake in the Butter Tart Trot, a run (5 km, 10 km, and half-marathon courses) where participants can rehydrate AND eat more butter tarts at stops along the way.
