The world’s largest butter tart festival is happening next month

Looking for a sweet escape from Toronto?

This June, drive out to Midland for an all-day street festival dedicated to the ultimate Ontario dessert.

Billed as the world’s largest butter tart festival, Ontario’s Best Butter Tart Festival and Contest boasts 150,000 butter tarts of all sizes and flavours for sale from over 50 butter tart vendors, as well as a marketplace populated with bakers, artisans, and community groups.

There’s a bake off too. Amateur and professional bakers will face off in All-Ontario flavour divisions hopeful of being crowned Ontario’s Best Butter Tart.

Aside from the sweet little tarts studded with pecans (or raisins if you’re a monster), look forward to food trucks and local restaurants serving up hot, savoury foods as well as a beer garden pouring Barnstormer brews.

Entertainment-wise, a free concert stage will showcase bands all day while buskers will entertain crowds throughout the festival grounds.

Lastly, if those looking for a way to burn off the sugar rush can partake in the Butter Tart Trot, a run (1 km kids run, 5 km, 10 km, and a ½ marathon course) where each water station will offer a chance to rehydrate as well as eat more butter tarts.
