The Government of Ontario is reporting 61 more COVID-19 cases in schools in Friday’s update, surpassing 2,000 school cases since September.
According to the provincial government, 40 of the new cases are student-related, four are staff-related, and 17 are unidentified.
There has been a reported 889 school-related cases in just two weeks, with 1,270 cases reported 14 or more days before that.
The numbers are announced daily at 10:30 am on the province’s school and childcare centre coronavirus-tracking website.
Out of the 2,159 cases reported since September, about 55.4% of cases have been reported from students.
There are no school closures to report at this time; however, 551 schools currently have reported cases.
As for licensed childcare centres, there are now 424 total confirmed cases, as well as 92 centres and 390 homes closed.
On Friday, the Government of Ontario confirmed 896 new COVID-19 cases, a decrease from the 934 reported on Thursday.
Ontario also reported the first 1,000 student cases since back to school season last month, on Wednesday.
