Ontario reported a spike in new coronavirus cases Saturday, with 455 new patients identified.

Of those, 387 new cases were discovered in the past day and 68 cases were added to the count because of a delay between laboratory testing and reporting to public health. Still, that’s more new cases than Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, where new case numbers were all under 360.

The province also announced 35 new deaths Saturday, bringing the province’s death toll to 2,407.

Ontario has now seen a total of 30,202 cases since the pandemic began. Most of those patients have recovered though, with 23,947 cases considered resolved.

There continue to be many outbreaks at long-term care homes, although the number is less compared to a few weeks ago.
