Ontario announced three more cases of coronavirus Saturday afternoon, all tied to travel history to Iran.
This brings the total number of cases in the province to 11.
The announcement from Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. David Williams came just hours after the province announced its eighth case Saturday morning.
Ontario’s ninth case of COVID-19 is in a 34-year-old woman from Richmond Hill who returned from Iran on February 26. According to a news release from York Region, the woman travelled home by GO Bus from Toronto Pearson International Airport.
She boarded the number 40 bus at about 3:55 pm on February 26, and sat on the upper deck until she got off at Richmond Hill Centre Terminal. The municipality says people who also took this bus could have been exposed, and advises them to call York Region Public Health at 1-800-361-5653 between 8:30 am and 8 pm.
York Region also released the woman’s flight itinerary, adding that those sitting in business class on the following flights could have been exposed:
- Business class on Qatar Airways flight QR 483 and QR 163
- Business class on Air Canada flight AC 883
The next day, February 27, the woman went to Mackenzie Health in Vaughan, Ontario with a dry cough, runny nose, shortness of breath and headache. She was tested for COVID-19, and is currently in self-isolation at home.
Ontario’s 10th and 11th cases are in a husband and wife from Ajax, Ontario. The wife, 51, returned to Toronto from Iran on February 28. Her husband accompanied her to a local clinic because she had a cough, body aches and chills.
Health officials arranged for her to go to Lakeridge Health Ajax Pickering, and planned her arrival so that she didn’t contact other patients. She has been discharged, and is in isolation at home.

Her husband, 69, also tested positive for COVID-19, although his symptoms are more mild. He is also in isolation at home.
“At this time the virus is not circulating locally,” Williams said. “However, given the global circumstances, Ontario is actively working with city and health partners to plan for the potential of local spread.”
There have been 19 cases of COVID-19 so far in Canada.
