What would the winter season be without outdoor ice skating rinks?

Even if you’re not much of a skater, fewer things will get you in the mood for winter faster than hitting the ice and skating circles around a rink.

And in case you feel like you’ve already skated on all the outdoor rinks in Toronto, there’s a massive new rink that just opened in the GTA.

Located just under an hour north of downtown Toronto, you’ll find the new Gore Meadows covered outdoor ice rink in Brampton (10150 The Gore Road).

The nearly 9,000 sq.ft rink is the “first-of-its-kind” and features a covered roof and sits on 143 acres of land next to the Gore Meadows Community Centre and Library.

The rink’s unique structure is made from galvanized steel and glulam (arched timber beams) with a metal deck, a concrete pad and full arena boards for those looking to play a game of contact hockey.

The unique roof covering and design protects the artificial ice from the elements, especially the sun, which can soften the ice in the winter.

The rink also features two accessible washrooms and one universal change room with lockers.

In the winter, the rink is perfect for those looking to play a game of shinny, try skating lessons and public skates, whereas, in the warmer months, the space will be used for events, recreation programs, camps and ball hockey.

The rink is now available for drop-in shinny and public skates, while full winter programming can be found here.
