If you’re looking for an escape from the hustle of the city to enjoy our beautiful province during the height of winter, you may want to consider loading up the car and heading to Arrowhead Provincial Park.
Three hours north of the city in Huntsville you’ll find an incredible winter oasis, complete with cross-country skiing, snowshoeing paths, snow tubing, and most importantly, a skating trail that winds through the picturesque evergreen forest in an idyllic winter wonderland setting.

The Arrowhead ice skating trail is a meandering pathway that stretches for 1.3 km and welcomes skaters of all skill levels.
Saturdays are typically the busiest skating days and wait times can reach up to 30 minutes. To avoid disappointment and for the absolute best experience, skaters are encouraged to visit midweek or on Sundays.
If this skating trail wasn’t already cool enough, the park also hosts Fire & Ice nights during the winter, where the trail is illuminated by hundreds of tiki torches once the sun goes down.
Admission is $17 per vehicle, and the trail is located at Arrowhead Provincial Park in North Muskoka. For the absolute best experience, remember to go midweek to beat the crowds and get the best ice conditions.
Additionally, those needing skates can rent a pair for $10 a pop.
The skating trail is said to open in late December or early January, but the opening of the skating trail is subject to weather. Once the trail opens to the public, it will then be open seven days a week.
Being surrounded on all sides by snow-covered evergreen trees is an absolutely stunning sight and one that you definitely need to experience this winter.
