The City of Montreal is calling for Halloween celebrations to be moved to Friday due to poor weather conditions.

On Twitter, the city and Mayor Valérie Plante are advising trick-or-treaters to head out on Friday to avoid getting soaked by the 40 to 70 mm of rain that is expected to begin falling tonight.

“I invite Montrealers to spend Halloween on Friday [because] of the rain and strong winds announced tomorrow,” Plante stated.

According to Environment Canada, strong winds that could reach up to 80 km/h are expected tomorrow night and into Friday evening.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected, and the alert also states that localized flooding in low-lying areas is a possibility.

The weather agency warns that heavy downpour can cause flash floods and water pooling on the roads.

The rainfall warning is in effect for the following areas:

  • Châteauguay – La Prairie area
  • Laval area
  • Longueuil – Varennes area
  • Montréal Island area

Earlier today, several other towns across the province including Sainte-Julie, McMasterville, and Varennes, also announced it would be pushing Halloween to Friday due to the poor weather.
