Using PRESTO could get a whole lot easier very soon.

Metrolinx has announced they are discussing the creation of a PRESTO mobile app that will allow users to not only manage their accounts from their phones but also tap their phones to pay for TTC fares.

Details are scarce, but a presentation document from the company has been made public ahead of a board of directors meeting on Thursday, April 26.

The Mobile PRESTO Card app promises to allow for better journey planning, provide riders with real-time route and vehicle tracking, and give an up-to-date balance and transaction history information.

The company also said it would be interested in including loyalty incentives and promotions for users.

No timetable has been set for when the app would be launched or if any modification to existing PRESTO machines would be required.

Recently, Vancouver based transit company Translink proposed a similar system of tap-and-go payment through mobile.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated as details are released.
