A pedestrian is dead after a hit-and-run on Jarvis Street in downtown Toronto Saturday night.

The 65-year-old victim was walking across Jarvis Street between Gerrard and Dundas streets just after 10 pm when he was struck in the northbound lanes, according to a Toronto Police Service news release.

The man started crossing on the west side of Jarvis, meaning he had already crossed the southbound lanes when he was hit.

The man was taken to hospital, but he died of his injuries.

The driver fled the scene, and police are canvassing local businesses and witnesses to gather more information. They haven’t yet released a description of the suspect vehicle or driver.

Police ask residents, businesses, or drivers who have security or dash cam footage of the incident to contact them. Anyone with information can contact Toronto police at 416-808-1900, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477.
