71-year-old man charged after allegedly groping 2 women in a grocery store

A 71-year-old man has been charged following an alleged sexual assault at a grocery store in Richmond Hill last month.

According to York Regional Police, on Sunday, February 23, officers responded to a report of a sexual assault that had occurred at a grocery store located at 9325 Yonge Street.

Investigators say that just after 12:30 pm, two females were shopping in the grocery store when an unknown man allegedly bumped into them. The man then followed the two women around the grocery store, then approached them and allegedly groped their buttocks.

Police say on Thursday, February 27, the suspect turned himself into police at #2 District Headquarters.

Ernesto Araujo of Richmond Hill has been charged with three counts of sexual assault, and two counts of criminal harassment.

Investigators also re-released an image of the accused to ensure that there are no further victims.
