Known as a reliable spot for authentic Italian in the Yorkville neighbourhood, L’Unità is gearing up to close on New Year’s Eve after 12 years serving the city.

The osteria and wine bar will shutter to make space for a new restaurant concept by David Minicucci and Rob Rossi, which will be opening in spring of 2020.

L’Unità was founded in 2007 by David Minicucci and partner Sam Kalogiros, and quickly became a neighbourhood staple. Located at 134 Avenue Road, the spot has long served as a space to enjoy authentic Italian fare like fresh pizza, handmade pasta, and over 300 different wines.

The restaurant’s final service will be for dinner on New Year’s Eve. Until then, hours will be from 5:30 pm to 10 pm Tuesday to Thursday, and 5:30 pm to 11 pm on Friday and Saturday.

The new eatery that will take over the space at 134 Avenue will mark the third collaboration between Minicucci and Rossi, the restaurateur and executive chef behind L’Unità, and College Street’s beloved Giulietta.
