Iconic Toronto restaurant is leaving the neighbourhood after over a decade
A Toronto restaurant that’s been a local staple for over a decade is closing permanently to move out of the city.
Toronto’s culinary scene is a dazzling mosaic of international cuisines that span, seemingly, every corner of the globe. It may be trite, but it’s true.
If you’re in the mood for Nicaraguan, Georgian, Ethiopian, Peruvian or anything else, it won’t take you long to find it in the city. That’s what makes the ‘Six so special.
When it comes to Cuban food, however, the options — though great — are decidedly limited, and, since 2012, Roncesvalles’ La Cubana has been the undisputed champion for the cuisine in the city.
Founded by chef Corinna Mozo, the restaurant is a cool, casual spot that serves up the absolute best of Cuban cuisine, which, yes, includes but is in no way limited to, the almighty Cubano Sandwich, a forever favourite of ours.
In the 13 years since opening, La Cubana has become a local institution, embodying the untucked, communal air of the community while tactfully keeping the city’s Cuban food cravings in check.
According to a recent announcement from the restaurant, though, it’ll soon be the end of an era for La Cubana.

“So, after 13 years on Roncy, we’ve decided to shut down this location,” Mozo explains in a video posted to La Cubana’s Instagram last week.
“This just gives me a little time to pursue some other endeavours that I’m excited about [and] creative opportunities that have been calling to me,” she explains.
What, exactly, those new endeavours and creative opportunities are remains to be seen, but if there’s one thing we’ve come to expect from Mozo, it’s something tasty.
While this is the end of La Cubana’s Roncesvalles era, it’s not all bad news. In fact, far from it.
The restaurant opened a new location at Prince Edward County’s Base 31 in the spring of 2025, joining forces with the likes of Cressy Mustard Co., Kleinburg’s La Baracca and Smoking J’s Barbecue.

If you can only take one more culinary road trip before Ontario’s weather takes a turn for the cold and dreary, this open-air cultural hub should be at the top of your list.
If you’re hoping to stick within city limits, on the other hand, you can also still find La Cubana at their Ossington location or at the Wellington Market Food Hall in The Well.
You can also swing by La Cubana Roncesvalles any time before Sept. 28 for one last bite and a “see you later.”
