Chinese restaurant that's a Vancouver institution just opened its first Toronto location
A Vancouver-based Chinese food chain that’s been an institution for nearly 30 years just opened its first Toronto location.
Founded in 1998, Vancouver’s Peaceful Restaurant is a certified legend on the West Coast, with five locations in Metro Vancouver and a legacy that spans decades.
Helmed by owner and executive chef Charlie Huang, the restaurant chain specializes in Northern Chinese cuisine, achieving a distinct flavour and style that’s made the restaurant a B.C. staple.
Peaceful Restaurant’s icon status was further solidified after a 2012 feature on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. If Guy Fieri says it’s good, it’s got to be good, right?
As of this past week, they’re officially in Toronto now, too.
Taking on The Annex with a location on Bloor West (situated underneath the recently relocated and equally iconic Presse Internationale), Peaceful Restaurant’s first-ever Toronto location has officially landed, and it looks good.
Among the restaurant’s most popular dishes are staples like Xiao-Long Bao, Dan-Dan Noodles (making up for the Szechuan Noodle Bowl-shaped hole that recently opened on the street) and their signature Peaceful Beef Rolls, which feature five-spiced beef rolled in crispy green onion flatbread.
The menu also features a selection of Szechuan staples, from soups and noodle dishes to stir-fries and their House Fried Rice, which includes diced pork, shrimp and assorted vegetables.
It’s in good company, too.

Peaceful Restaurant joins a crop of exciting new restaurants that have recently opened their doors along the stretch of Bloor West between Spadina and Christie, including Big Way Hot Pot and Korean street food spot, Mura Cupbop, so these days, Bloor West is looking a lot like, as Guy Fieri would say, Flavourtown.
According to Peaceful Restaurant’s website, the chain is actively looking to expand to additional locations across North America, so while the Bloor location is Toronto’s first, it very well may not be our last.
