Everyone loves a happy ending to a story, especially when it’s about a dog being adopted.

Odie, an adorable Akita-Boxer mix dog, has finally found a forever home on Vancouver Island.

What makes his adoption so special is that Odie was the longest-running resident in the Toronto Humane Society’s recent history — spending FOUR YEARS in and out of animal shelters and in foster homes.

Little Odie was adopted twice but was returned a short time later on both occasions.

Throughout his time at the shelter, Odie was featured as the “Pet of the Week” on many occasions but couldn’t seem to find the right home.

He’s described as a dog with a bubbly attitude and incredible force of personality.

The Toronto Humane Society posted a heartwarming video on its Twitter account in honour of Odie’s adoption — and trek across the country to British Columbia.

It was apparently a former THS employee that adopted Odie.

The former employee had bonded with Odie while working at the shelter but had moved to BC, so she called THS to see if Odie was still available since she couldn’t get him out of her head.

One of Odie’s new owners went to Toronto and drove him back to his new home on the West Coast.

Odie’s journey to British Columbia — and new life — is documented on his Instagram account @odie_is_adopted.
