Driver escapes serious injury after guide rail smashes through windshield (PHOTOS)

A driver is lucky to be alive after a piece of guide rail smashed through their vehicle’s windshield.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says a vehicle was driving westbound on the QEW on Thursday and lost control of the vehicle.

At this time, the vehicle hit the centre guide rail, and the force of the impact sent a large piece of the support beam flying through the front windshield of a passing vehicle travelling in the eastbound lanes.

The large piece of wood shattered the front windshield and was lodged between the window and the steering wheel.

According to Schmidt, the driver was “lucky to be alive” and only suffered minor scratches.
