GoodLife asks members to "stand up for fitness," contact MPPs to reopen

GoodLife Fitness sent an email to its members, asking them to “Stand Up for Fitness!” and contact their local Ontario MPPs to reopen clubs.

In the email, obtained by Daily Hive, GoodLife states that the industry is facing “serious challenges as a result of the global pandemic” in Ontario.

“Between mandated shutdowns, capacity restrictions, and ongoing questions about the safety of fitness facilities, our industry is facing the most difficult time in its history,” reads the email.

“We know that these challenges are greatly impacting many of our Associates and Members. We are doing everything we can to work with government and public health experts to be a part of the solution, and to help advise on the decisions they are making for our industry. In order to be as effective as possible in our outreach to government and public health, we need your help!”

Local fitness gyms, in particular, have also shared a similar sentiment with the restrictions, as the pandemic continues to affect their businesses.

TheĀ Save Health & Wellness CoalitionĀ andĀ Ontario Independent Fitness Studios Association (OIFSA)Ā also made a similar move with a petition, demanding “that the Ontario Government and Premier Ford treat boutique fitness studios in the Toronto, Ottawa, Peel and York regions fairly,ā€ it states.

The email by GoodLife states the steps along with a fill-in letter template that either members or industry employees can send off to their local MPPs.

Earlier this month, the provincial government added indoor gyms to the list of businesses that fall under the modified stage 2 restrictions.

“This campaign is driven by the Fitness Industry Council of Canada (FIC), and we hope it will be supported by thousands of fitness industry members and employees from across the province,” reads the email.
