Gardiner Expressway to close over the Thanksgiving long weekend

Those planning on leaving the city over the Thanksgiving weekend are going to need to plan their route accordingly, as the Gardiner Expressway will be closed for maintenance and improvements.

The city says the highway will be closed in both directions between Highway 427/Queen Elizabeth Way and the Don Valley Parkway starting this Saturday, October 12 at 12:01 am until 5 am on Monday, October 14.

During the scheduled closure, crews will perform important maintenance and improvement work to help keep the highway in the best state of good repair, in advance of the coming winter season, according to the city.

Some of the planned maintenance work includes line marking, overhead and ground sign inspections, pothole repair and crack sealing, mechanical sweeping and debris removal, graffiti removal, hydro pole replacement and repair, traffic camera inspection and repair, and hydro and guide rail repair and replacement.
