An old fan favourite from the Toronto Maple Leafs is hanging up his skates.
After 987 games in the NHL, former Leafs forward Matt Martin has officially announced his retirement.
Martin signed with the Leafs back in 2016, playing 132 games with the franchise over the course of two seasons.
He was eventually traded back to the New York Islanders for Eamon McAdam, spending 13 of his 15 NHL seasons with the franchise.
And it appears that’s where he’ll end up in the future, as the Islanders announced on their website that Martin has joined the franchise as a special assistant to the general manager.
