Those banging their heads against the wall for Alexander Mogilny to get into the Hockey Hall of Fame can finally rest.
After being snubbed year after year with no end in sight, the Russian star, who spent parts of five seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, was finally inducted into the Hall of Fame this afternoon.
Mogilny not only managed 473 goals and 1,032 points in 990 career games, but also served as the first player in NHL history to defect from the Soviet Union to come play in North America. Suffice it to say, today’s induction was long overdue.

While Mogilny was the name many were excited to see get the call, he was far from the only deserving candidate to get in.
Also inducted alongside Mogilny were Zdeno Chara, Duncan Keith, Joe Thornton, Jennifer Botterill, Brianna Decker, and builders Jack Parker and Daniele Sauvageau.

It comes as little surprise to see any of these players get the call, particularly Thornton, who was in his first year of eligibility. The 45-year-old sits 14th all-time in NHL scoring with 1,539 points, while his 1,714 games are sixth. Right behind him is Chara, who logged 1,680 games over his outstanding career.
One notable omission from this class was longtime Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price, who was in his first year of eligibility. While disappointing to some, the 2014-15 Hart Trophy winner will get the call soon enough, perhaps as early as next year.
