Those driving home today should plan accordingly, as Toronto is going to be hit with periods of snow during the evening commute.

According to Environment Canada, today’s significant snowfall may now be up to 25 cm, with the highest amounts near west end of Lake Ontario.

The weather agency states the snowfall amounts have been slightly higher than originally anticipated, with some areas already reporting nearly 15 cm as of 2 pm.

With snowfall forecast to continue this afternoon, some areas may exceed 20 cm by evening. And snow will be heavy at times from 4 pm through to 5 pm, at peak rush hour.

Environment Canada

Environment Canada warns that rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.

“Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance,” reads today’s snowfall warning.

But don’t worry, the snow will short lived and it will be replaced with sunny skies on Thursday.
