Toronto's first-ever Dachshund Derby is happening this weekend

Aug 21 2018, 9:55 pm

Toronto’s Woodbine Racetrack might usually deal in the excitement of live thoroughbred racing, but this weekend the racetrack is trading in ponies for puppies.

The first-ever Dachshund Derby will see 30 Dachshunds compete in a 25-metre dash for the championship title and a $500 grand prize. Registration is $50 and there are still a few spots left if you happen to have a swift little sausage dog of your own.

For spectators, look forward to three qualifying heats featuring 10 ultra-cute contenders at a time. The qualifiers will start at approximately 1:40 pm on the EP Taylor Turf Course and be followed by one championship race.

Just note, dogs aren’t otherwise invited and will not be permitted onsite or in the grandstand.
