Chick-fil-A opening more Toronto locations this year

Chick-fil-A is expanding in the city! The fast-food joint has announced they will be opening two new locations in Toronto this year.

After its unhappy welcome into the city at its grand opening, Chick-fil-A still has plans to continue its gradual expansion in Toronto.

The two new restaurants will be located in Scarborough Town Centre’s food court and at 336 Queen Street West.

“We’re thrilled to continue growing in Canada by opening restaurants in Kitchener and Toronto. During these times, we’re grateful for the positive response we continue to receive from our Canadian customers, and we are honoured to serve our new communities great-tasting food made with high-quality ingredients,” said Anita Costello, executive vice president of International at Chick-fil-A Inc.

“Like our first two locations, each restaurant will be locally owned and operated. The success of our business is built on local owner/operators who truly care about their restaurant and the community they serve.”

According to a press release, the restaurants are marked to open later this year, creating around 200 to 250 full- and part-time jobs.

There were mixed emotions when the first restaurant opened, as protests surrounded the opening day of the very first location, despite the long line-ups to get a taste of what the American-chain has to offer.

Weeks after the opening date, there were still line-ups to place an order despite having a second location in the city’s north end.

According to the company, for every new restaurant opening in Canada, Chick-fil-A will donate $25,000 to a local food bank located near the new restaurant.

“In addition to these donations, Chick-fil-A restaurants will help alleviate hunger and reduce food waste through Chick-fil-A’s Shared Table program. This initiative redirects surplus food from restaurants to local soup kitchens, shelters and non-profits in need,” reads the release.

“Chick-fil-A has partnered with Second Harvest, Canada’s largest food rescue organization, to support individuals experiencing food insecurity in Toronto and across Canada. Together they delivered 22 million pounds of food to Torontonians in need in 2020, while also reducing the environmental impact of food waste.”

There are currently two Chick-fil-A restaurants in the city, 1 Bloor Street and at the Yorkdale Mall.

But that’s not all for the chain. The company plans to open 20 more restaurant locations in the country by 2025.
