Canada FIFA World Cup player slams airline that flew him to wrong city

It’s one thing to lose your luggage, but have you ever ended up in the wrong city?
That was the case for Canadian national team right back Alistair Johnston, who shared on Sunday that he learned his lesson never to fly with Frontier Airlines.
“Learned my lesson today. Never fly Frontier Airlines even if it’s the only direct flight available,” wrote Johnston on social media.
“Genuinely look for multi-stop red-eye flights before flying with them. I’m still not sure where my bags are, and I’m in the wrong city somehow.”
The official account of the Canadian men’s national team (@CANMNT_Official) replied to Johnston’s post: “Where did they send you? š”

The 27-year-old defender from Aurora, Ont., played in all five matches for Canada during this 2026 FIFA World Cup, as the country made history reaching the Round of 16 for the first time.
Canada’s tournament ended with a 3-0 defeat to Morocco on July 4 in Houston.
Johnston did not reveal where he was heading (or ended up in that matter). Still, according to one passenger who took an airport selfie with the Canadian soccer player, the flight turned from what was supposed to be a direct 2.5-hour flight into an eight-hour trip that landed at the wrong airport, twice.

The internet was not happy to hear that Canadian players were flying on low-budget airlines after the FIFA World Cup.
“Why are they putting our Canadian soccer kings on Frontier?!” one fan wrote.
“Someone explain to me how our players are flying Frontier after the most successful World Cup run ever,” wrote another.
Johnston’s final destination was likely Ireland, with his club Celtic FC kicking off their preseason in the Irish capital on July 7.
We just hope he was able to find his luggage.
