Quebec's coronavirus death toll reaches 8, increases Canada's total to 37
Quebec Premier François Legault announced that the province’s death toll from COVID-19 has reached eight citizens and known confirmed cases have increased to 1,629, during his daily briefing on Thursday.
“I wish to offer my most sincere condolence to the families and those closet to the families,” said Legault.
One of the province’s deaths includes the first coronavirus related death in the city of Montreal.
Canada’s coronavirus death toll has now reached 37. According to the government of Canada’s website, the risk to Canadians is considered high and “risks will vary between and within communities.”

“Quebec is one of the places in the world where we’ve done the most screening tests, proportionally,” continued Legault, in French. The province has completed a total of 36,105 tests, according to provincial health authorities.

The Premier continued to stress the importance of health care equipment, stating “we will continue to be tight with our suppliers. Every company in the world is keeping a watchful eye on masks and gloves.”
“This is the great fight of our collective lives in Quebec,” concluded Legault. “We will win this, but we have to follow the guidelines. We have to stop this virus, if we all continue our efforts we will win this battle together. We need everyone to do their part and show their solidarity.”
