As of this past Monday, until further notice, Hydro-Québec will stop applying charges for unpaid bills for all of its customers.

Hydro-Québec clients who are unable to pay their electricity bills “over the coming months” will not be penalized.

“Customers who expect to have financial difficulties are invited to enter into a payment arrangement with Hydro-Québec now to plan the deferral of their payments,” reads the utility company’s statement. “This option is available anytime on our website or by phone at 1-888-385-7252.”

Last week, the company announced preliminary financial measures to make life a bit easier for its customers.

For clients “who could experience financial difficulties” in the wake of the pandemic, Hydro-Québec said it will not cut off power to any customers, whether residential or business.

“The suspension of service interruptions, which lasts from December 1 to March 31, will thus be extended until further notice,” reads last week’s statement.

The company also announced that there will be no planned service interruptions to carry out work on the power system, except when deemed “absolutely essential.”
