The City of Toronto is one step closer to hosting the FIFA World Cup next year.

On Tuesday, the city announced that it had completed phase one of upgrading Toronto Stadium (BMO Field) in preparation for the first FIFA World Cup game they will host on June 12.

Canada will play in that game against an opponent that’s yet to be determined.

The most notable improvement that fans will notice are the four new videoboards, with one attached to each of the stadium’s corner columns. Each videoboard is 50 feet wide by 30 feet high.

Off the pitch, fans will get to experience “improvements to concessions and the concourse areas, including self-serve technology,” the City of Toronto said in a press release.

Some of the other upgrades include an expanded video production control room, suite renovations, expanded broadcast infrastructure, and upgraded in-stadium Wi-Fi.

Phase two of the $146-million upgrades will begin in December, the most notable of which will be the temporary addition of 17,000 seats to the stadium. This will increase seating capacity for the FIFA World Cup to 45,000 seats.

Toronto will be hosting six games in total during the men’s World Cup, including a Round of 32 match on July 2.
