How much tickets cost to see Messi in Toronto, but will he show?

Toronto FC fans are gearing up for the possibility of watching Lionel Messi this weekend, though whether he will hit the field remains to be seen.

Messi and his Inter Miami teammates are set to take on Toronto at the BMO Field on Saturday afternoon. It would mark Messi’s first time in Toronto since Inter Miami picked up a 1-0 win at the BMO Field in October last season.

Given the draw Messi brings in, many would love to get their hands on some tickets, and, at least as of now, prices are rather affordable compared to the usual demand to see the 38-year-old.

The cheapest tickets available for Saturday’s outing, as listed on Ticketmaster, are going for $195.57. Meanwhile, there are plenty of other seats up for grabs at prices just north of $200.

To no surprise, prices jump in the lower bowl, though not as much as you may expect. The cheapest option in the lower bowl is currently going for a reasonable $218.94

While those prices aren’t cheap by any means, they aren’t the ridiculous prices one would expect in a match involving Messi. A significant part of that is likely due to the fact that he may not ultimately show up for the game.

Inter Miami has a busy schedule coming up, as they are set to take on New York City Football Club this Wednesday. They will then have just two nights off following their game in Toronto before going up against Chicago Fire FC on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

It is worth noting that Inter Miami, who has six games remaining in the season, sits fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 15-6-7 record for 52 points. They are both one win and one point shy of New York City Football Club, who owns a 16-9-5 record through 30 games. Finishing top four in the conference would give Inter Miami home-field advantage in the first round of what would be a best-of-three series.

Given that New York is just one win up on Miami in the standings, it’s expected that Messi will be playing on Wednesday night. That could prompt Miami to sit Messi against the 5-13-12 Toronto roster, in hopes of keeping him fresh not only for the following week’s match against Chicago, but for the rest of the season.

That said, Miami hasn’t made any sort of notion one way or the other on if Messi will be playing in Toronto, meaning that fans who are hoping to see him may want to scoop up tickets now. If it does get confirmed that he’s suiting up, there’s a good chance ticket prices will rise.
