Bo Bichette is posting absurd numbers for Toronto Blue Jays in spring training

Bo Bichette appears to be back and better than ever for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Bichette, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, has been tearing it up in spring training through the 14 games he’s played. The 27-year-old is hitting a robust .359 with three home runs and eight RBIs through just 39 plate appearances.

Though it’s only spring training, this has been a good reminder as to how good of a player Bichette is when healthy. Injuries limited him to just 81 games last season, and his .225 batting average puts into question how healthy he was when he did suit up. At his best, he’s a far more effective player.

The two-time All Star and two-time AL hit leader had arguably the best season of his career in 2021, where he launched a career-high 29 home runs along with 102 RBIs and a .298 batting average in 159 games. His stats have been relatively similar in other campaigns throughout his career aside from 2024.

Ironically enough, if the Blue Jays are to make the playoffs this year, they will need both Bichette and Guerrero Jr. — who may both leave via free agency at seasons end — to be at their best. While the pitching rotation figures to be solid in 2025, there aren’t a ton of other bats on the roster who are going to be able to help with much offensively.

The Blue Jays were able to add some support with the signing of Anthony Santander, though after him there isn’t much else to be excited over. George Springer’s spring training performance to date suggests he could be in line for a long 2025 season, and after that there are a lot of question marks.

At the very least, Bichette having a bounce-back season could help the Jays get a big return for him should they chose to move on from him at the trade deadline.
