Toronto Blue Jays fans are keeping a close eye on Vladimir Guerrero Jr. right now, but another star player is also in need of a contract
Bo Bichette is entering the final year of his current contract with the Blue Jays and is set to hit the open market next winter if he is unable to agree to an extension. You would think that negotiations to keep him in Toronto would be well underway, but according to Bichette, that hasn’t been the case.
He laid out how things currently stand between him and the Jays in a recent interview with Sportsnet’s Hazel Mae.
“I was told they would reach out. They haven’t yet,” Bichette told Mae. “In the past, it’s been during spring training when they reach out to me.
“Obviously, Vladdy is [the] priority at this point.”

The 26-year-old shortstop is coming off a down season with the Jays as he only recorded four homeruns and 31 RBIs in 81 games last year. That is a far cry from the 20 homeruns that he managed to hit in 2023.
This decrease in production has spurred all kinds of rumours that his time in Toronto is coming to an end. Just last month, MLB insider Bob Nightengale stated Bichette is “as good as gone” for the Jays.Ā
Mae was also able to chat with Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins about the Bichette situation, where he didn’t reveal too much.
“The willingness is there [to sign Bichette] and every situation is unique,” Atkins said. “Bo’s a great player that we believe in and has had a massive impact on this organization, and can continue to.
“I don’t want to get into the specifics of when exactly conversations have occurred or have been driven.”

The 2025 offseason is shaping up to be a very important one for the Jays as they could possibly lose out on two of their top players in Vlad and Bichette. We shall see if the Atkins and the rest of Toronto’s management can find a way to avoid that in the coming months.
Until then, Blue Jays fans will have to nervously wait and see how it all plays out.
