Toronto Blue Jays fans might want to hold their breath in hopes of George Springer having a bounce-back 2025 season.
The Springer signing hasn’t worked out for the Blue Jays, due to both injury and poor performance. While not living up to his contract in any of his four seasons in Toronto to date, the 2024 campaign was especially bad, as he hit just .220 with 19 home runs and 56 RBIs through 145 games. Based on spring training, things may not get any better going forward.
While many Blue Jays including Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette are scorching hot in preseason thus far, Springer is not one of them. The 35-year-old has struggled immensely, recording just three hits through 22 at bats for a .136 batting average along with two RBIs and five strikeouts.

The Blue Jays weren’t able to add much for bats aside from Anthony Santander in free agency, meaning that they are relying on Springer to rediscover his once well-above average bat. Spring training isn’t always the best indicator on how a player will perform during the regular season, but based on his 2024 campaign, there’s real reason to be concerned.
Springer does have some time to make some adjustments at the plate, as there are seven more games he can play in before the regular season gets underway. The Blue Jays will begin their season on March 27 at Rogers Centre against the divisional-rival Baltimore Orioles.
