The Beer Store to eliminate single-use plastic bags at all locations

The Beer Store announced today in January of 2020, it will be eliminating single-use plastic bags at all retail locations across Ontario.

“This is an important step forward for the Beer Store, building on our award-winning recycling efforts that have seen over 20 billion beer containers refilled/recycled during the same time span as the more than 4 billion alcohol containers diverted from Ontario landfills since 2007, ” said Ted Moroz, President of the Beer Store in a release.

Many products sold at the Beer Store are already packaged using recyclable materials for easy transport, rendering bags unnecessary for some. For those who require them, the Beer Store will have reusable bags available as an alternative, which will be for sale at all locations later this year.

The Beer Store also has a return system in place that offers recycling of both returned empty containers and the associated packaging, meaning that no material is sent directly to Ontario landfills.

The changes the store is making follow in the footsteps of many other business across Ontario, including Loblaws, as communities band together to reduce their environmental footprints.
