A new zero-waste store is opening in Toronto this winter

Eco-warriors of the city, rejoice!

Because Toronto is soon to welcome another permanent, zero-waste storefront to its cohort of responsible businesses.

After years running pop-ups and months prepping to open a brick-and-mortar shop, bare market is opening on the Danforth, near Coxwell Avenue.

Starting next month, you’ll be able to stock up on everything from dish detergent to shampoo and conditioner, without fretting about what’s going to the landfill.

Snacks like chips and olive oil will be available soon, too. You can browse the products you’ll be able to snag — save for food — online here.

The zero-waste shop launched summer of 2018 and was present as a pop-up bi-weekly at King West’s Patagonia.

At that point, it was the only consistent option solely dedicated to package-free goods in the city, and a mere 65 pop-up events helped to divert over 7,300 containers from heading to the landfill.

“Torontonians have said loud and clear that they are looking for more sustainable
shopping options in their day-to-day lives. We’re thrilled to see how much the
package-free community has grown in Toronto since we started almost two years ago,” Dayna Stein, founder of the market, said in a release.

“Opening a permanent space was the next logical step in our mission to make
sustainable and ethical living easy and accessible for everyone, everywhere. We want to
show people that reducing their waste doesn’t have to be expensive and difficult — it
can be easy, accessible, and fun!”

And in addition to being package-free, the place is judgement-free, too. Whether you’re bringing along a fresh mason jar, an empty yogurt container, or a finished bottle of wine, it doesn’t matter. You can use any unchipped and clean vessel to refill with goods.

The new shop will celebrate its grand opening at 1480 Danforth Avenue on February 1. Until then, you can always venture over to the west end to stock up at Unboxed Market.

Soon enough, both ends of the city will bare the best, unboxed versions of themselves.
