What to eat in and around Seattle today: Kedai Makan

Mar 24 2021, 7:01 pm

Growing out of humble beginnings as a food vendor, Kedai Makan is now a full restaurant and bar that puts its own twist on traditional Malaysian dishes.

The Capitol Hill restaurant creates its own chili ginger as well as Chinese medicinal infusions to help with longevity, strength and stamina, libido, and healing.

We recommend starting with an order of peanuts and kerabu timun nanas. The peanuts aren’t your regular Five Guys peanuts; instead, these have lime leaf, anchovies, and chili. TheĀ kerabu timun nanas is a salad of cucumber, pineapple, peanut, red onion, basil, kersik, and dried shrimp.

For mains, you should order family-style, where each person orders a plate to share. We love the nasi goreng belacan, sarawak laksa, chili pan mee, duck noodles, and ayam goreng masala.

Don’t forget to finish off your meal with bubur hitam, a warm, black rice pudding with dried longan berries and coconut cream, and a coconut shake with kahlua.
