This is Pantone's "thought-provoking" 2020 Color of the Year
Calmness, confidence, and connection. That’s the tone being set by Pantone’s newest Color of the Year.
Released annually by the company’s color experts, this year’s shade is called Classic Blue.
It’s described as “thought-provoking” and “a timeless and enduring hue elegant in its simplicity.”
Pantone explains in a release that Classic Blue “highlight[s] our desire for a dependable and stable foundation from which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.”
It also holds relation “to the sky at dusk” in how it maintains “a perception of dependability and constancy.”
For the first time in the company’s history, Pantone has also decided to translate Classic Blue into “a multi-sensory experience.”
Pantone has announced collaborations with a number of sensory partners to bring their new Color of the Year to life. They’ve teamed up with Adobe, Artechouse, Audio UX, FedEx, Firmenich, The Inside, LANDR, and TEALEAVES.
“We are living in a time that requires trust and faith. It is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue, a solid and dependable hue we can always rely on,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone’s Color Institute.
For the past two decades, Pantone’s Color of the Year has been a driving force in influencing product development as well as many facets of the fashion, interior design, and industrial design industry.
Experts at the Pantone Color Institute reach out to the entertainment industry, the design industry, and all areas of the world to determine a winning shade.
Last year’s Color of the Year was Living Coral — an “animating and life-affirming coral hue, with a golden undertone.”
Be sure to keep an eye out for when Classic Blue makes an appearance.
