It looks like 2019 is getting brighter, more vibrant, and arguably, a little tropical.

Or at least, that’s the tone being set by Pantone’s latest Colour of the Year.

Released in annual fashion by the company’s colour experts, this year’s shade is called “Living Coral.”

It’s described as an “animating and life-affirming coral hue, with a golden undertone.”

The colour makes a strong connection to technology and social media as well. Pantone explains that Living Coral is a “nurturing colour”  which can be found in both natural surroundings and within the spectrum of social media.

It’s also meant to symbolize the human need for optimism and joyful pursuits, as well as the “desire for playful expression,” the company writes.

“With consumers, craving human interaction and social connection, the humanizing and heartening qualities displayed by the convivial Living Coral hit a responsive chord,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.

For the past 20 years, Pantone’s Colour of the Year has been an influencing force in product development, as well as the fashion, interior design, and industrial design industry.

Experts at the Pantone Colour Institute reach out to the entertainment industry, the design industry, and all areas of the world to determine a winning shade.

Last year’s Colour of the Year was Ultra Violet – a provocative and imaginative shade of blue-based purple.

If nothing else, be sure to keep an eye out for when and where Living Coral makes an appearance.
