The 27th annual Safeway Winter Wonderland is back, and it’s brighter and bigger than ever.

The Safeway Winter Wonderland event, considered to be Pacific Northwest’s “largest holiday light show west of the Mississippi,” will set Portland International Raceway ablaze with festivities and dazzling lights from November 29 onwards, until January 4.

“Expect more LED upgrades, new light displays, and a refurbishment of classic displays we haven’t seen in a few years at this year’s show,” said Sunshine Division’s Executive Director, Kyle Camberg, in a press release.

“We are committed to making more upgrades in the years to come, including additional light displays and a complete transition to energy-efficient LED bulbs.”

The incredible drive-through light show will showcase well over 250 light set pieces, created to represent intricate animated scenes, and you can watch all this from the comfort and safety of your own private vehicle.

First premiering in 1993, Winter Wonderland has since gone to become a Portland holiday tradition, and you can’t really say you celebrated the holidays if you haven’t visited the Safeway Winter Wonderland light event with your friends and family.

The best time to visit this dazzling light event is on weeknights or early December, as it can get very crowded on weekends, and the week of Christmas. Cars are also not allowed to drive on the track with chains or studded tires.
