The Rose City Classic Dog Show returns to Portland this week

Portland’s famous Rose City Classic Dog Show is back, and it’s all set to take place this week.

According to the eventā€™s release, the Rose City Classic Series of Dog Shows is one of the largest and most popular dog events in the United States. Every year, people travel from across America, and even foreign countries, to Portland to have their dogs compete at the show each January.Ā

The five-day event will begin on Wednesday with 20 Individual breed-specialty shows and an all-Terrier group show. Following this, from Thursday to Sunday, attendees can expect four all-breed dog shows. All-breed dog shows feature breed judging, which is also known as conformation.Ā

More than 170 AKC breeds compete in conformation to earn championships at the RCC dog show.

The event also offers top-notch performance and companion events such as agility, obedience, RallyĀ®, Canine Good Citizen and even the new AKC events, Trick Dogs and Temperament Testing. Competition for Beginner Puppies, four to six months old, is heldĀ on Saturday.

For those looking to learn more about a specific breed, the event features a ā€œMeet-the-Breedsā€ session from Friday to Sunday. Meet-the-Breeds is an educational show where more than 70 breeds and their breeders educate the public about their breed of dog.
