What to eat in Portland today: Po'Shines Cafe De La Soul

Jun 19 2020, 11:27 pm

We’ve spoken about our love for Southern Food here before. As Portland’s cuisine scene is dynamically affected by regional transplants, we’re all the better for it when it comes to the extensiveness of our available food adventures.

If you’ve got the time, definitely check out Nola Doughnuts, Catfish Lane, Tasty & Daughters, or any of the amazing biscuit shops in town. Today, we’re taking a look at a food establishment that embodies the ideal of Southern hospitality and cuisine.

Po’Shines Cafe De La Soul not only serves up some of the best classically southern dishes, it has gone on to offer free meals to seniors and members of the community in need. Led by the fearless Pastor E.D. Mondainé, Po’Shines also strives to bring change to its community by stirring conversations as well as pots, and developing cooks as a non-profit training workplace.

What to order

Normally, we’d dive deeper into a menu here and tell you which of the many great options we think is the best, but Po’Shines is a special kind of eatery.

So order whatever you want. Just make sure you order. These folks are whipping up some of Portland’s — no, Oregon’s — best southern food, and they are doing it with a stunningly bright light in their hearts. Order whatever is available, and get as much of it as you can.

Po’Shines also operates a catering service. So make sure they are on your list of considerations next time you need mind-blowing food at an event.
