NASA is in search of astronauts to explore the Moon and Mars

Maybe you’ve always wanted to be an astronaut, or maybe you’ve just gotten out of a bad breakup and need some time off away from this earth. No matter the reason, NASA is offering you the chance to do just that.

On March 2, NASA will begin its search for the next class of Artemis Generation astronauts: Astronauts that will explore the moon and live and work aboard the International Space Station, a striking 250 miles above Earth.

NASA is planning on establishing sustainable lunar exploration by 2028 and is hoping to send the first humans to Mars in the mid-2030s.

“We’re celebrating our 20th year of continuous presence aboard the International Space Station in low-Earth orbit this year, and we’re on the verge of sending the first woman and next man to the Moon by 2024,” said NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine. “For the handful of highly talented women and men we will hire to join our diverse astronaut corps, it’s an incredible time in human spaceflight to be an astronaut.”

If you’re hoping to apply, you must be ready to leave the world that you know behind to take part in experiments that benefit life at home and to prepare humankind for more distant exploration.

You must also be a United States citizen and have your master’s degree in a STEM field, including engineering, biological science, physical science, computer science, or mathematics from an accredited institution.

If you don’t have a STEM master’s degree, don’t lose hope yet. You can still apply as long as you have two years of work towards a Ph.D. program in related science, engineering, or math field, a completed doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathic medicine degree, or completion of a nationally recognized test pilot school program.

On top of the qualifications, you need to also have at least two years of related, progressively responsible professional experience, or at least 1,000 hours of pilot-in-command time in jet aircraft.

If you meet all of these requirements and are truly ready to blast-off, your time to apply is March 2 to 31.
