Calling all mermaids and mermen: learn all about your history and heritage at the nation’s first International Mermaid Museum.

Located just two hours out of Portland, the International Mermaid Museum at the Westport Winery in Olympia is the perfect spot to splash away and spend a day.

The museum is dedicated to teaching ocean ecology from the seashore to seafloor, with a focus on mermaid mythology unifying oceanic cultures.

The exhibition offers unique insights into ocean life, wrapped in the mythology of mermaids which creates a vivid and inviting learning opportunity for all ages and abilities.

Visitors will learn about mermaids across different cultures, and mermaids in history from Hans Christian Anderson to the evolution of the Starbucks logo.

In addition to educational messaging, the museum features unique artifacts such asĀ mermaid purses and even crystalline mermaid tears. Those who’d like to contribute to the museum are encouraged to donate any mermaid memorabilia and marine life artifacts that they may have.

In addition to all of the exciting items on display, the museum will be bringing live mermaid performances to its guests four times a year. Performance schedules will be made available on Facebook.

The museum is currently free to enjoy until May 1, when admission fees of $3 will be applied. Those under the age of five years old will always receive free admission. Those under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
