What to eat in Portland today: Hana's Authentic New Orleans Snowballs and More

Jul 3 2020, 9:59 pm

If you’ve ever been to the South, then you’re aware of two things, the heat and hospitality. Beat the temperatures and treat yourself at a place that wants to bring those Louisiana flavours right to you.

From Chicory Coffee (warming your insides can help cool your outsides) to Snowballs (shaved ice treats), you can’t go wrong with one temperature extreme or the other.

For us in Portland, we’re exponentially lucky to have plenty of traditional New Orleans treats in the metro area, including the gloriously refreshing snacks served up by Hanas New Orleans Snowballs and More.

The Pacific Northwest Summer weather can become rather overwhelming, so it’s easy for us to suggest you take some time out of your schedule to head over to Hana’s and pick yourself up one of their sweet eats. Even if it’s not hot out.

What to order

Oh boy, could we ever take the time to literally suggest almost anything on Hana’s list. Their menu is phenomenal beyond comprehension. Before we get to our favorite, we’d be remiss not to spend the time suggesting that everyone on the entire planet try Hana’s flavored pickles. They are mesmerizing and transcendent.

Another particular love note must be written for their other southern tradition in the Chili Cheese Chips (a bag of chips with nacho toppings in it).

However, it’s their Snowball menu — the namesake of the joint — that should cement Hana’s as place to frequent. Our favorite combo is the Sour Cherry, stuffed with Gummy Bears, and drizzled with Condensed Milk. It’s near perfection.

You can even get it served in a pineapple bowl. Hana’s will not disappoint.
