Free illuminated winter playground opens near Montreal next week

Jan 6 2021, 6:24 pm

Starting next week, Sainte-Catherine’s RécréoParc will transform from its usual camping and beaching spot into an outdoor winter playground.

The winter site, dubbed Rendez-vous polaires, will be open from January 16 to February 14 and will be free of charge to enter.

As of now, the site is scheduled to be open daily from 9 am to 9 pm, but the timetable could change based on Quebec Premier François Legault’s Wednesday evening announcement.

According to the RécréoParc’s Facebook page, the outdoor site can accommodate up to 1,000 physically-distanced guests, has an illuminated snow tube slide, a skating rink, cross-country and hiking trails, and a 2.5 km snowshoe trail.

Visitors can rent skates, snow tubes, and snowshoes for $7, and on-site restaurants will be selling food and beverages.

Weekends at the RécréoParc will include DJs spinning beats and fireworks.

Take that, winter cold.
