Public transit is an essential service but riding it pantless is not.
The cheekiest event of the year, the ‘No Pants Subway Ride’ (or, the ‘No Pants Metro Ride’ for us Montrealers) has been cancelled as a result of you-know-what.
Traditionally, the event is scheduled for mid-January and spans across the world, popping up in New York, Vancouver, Montreal, Hong Kong, Australia, Germany, San Francisco, and many others. According to the event’s website, the ride is “a celebration of silliness and nothing more — absurdity for absurdity’s sake.”

The ‘No Pants Subway Ride’ is an annual global event started by Improv Everywhere in New York in the winter of 2002. This is the first time the event will not go ahead as scheduled in its 19-year existence.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are cancelling the annual No Pants Subway Ride this year,” says the Improv Everywhere website. “We look forward to hosting more large-scale events once it is safe to do so again. In the meantime, we’ll be working remotely on an office in the middle of the river.”

In years past, the ‘No Pants Metro Ride’ took place on the Orange Line’s Sherbrooke station and consisted of hundreds of non-pantsed riders.
