This is what the biggest supermoon of the year looked like over Montreal (PHOTOS)
Last night, the second and largest supermoon of the year overtook the night sky and Montrealers landed some pretty gorgeous shots on Instagram.
A supermoon (no relation to Superman) is when the full moonย is closest to the Earth, and according toย EarthSky, yesterday’s full moon reached its exact full phase closer to the time of perigee than any other full moon this year.
The second supermoon of 2019 looked large, full and shiny over Montreal last night and we’ll be able to witness another one on March 31.

โThe moon will look extremely large when it rises and sets. This โmoon illusionโ happens when the moon is close to the horizon and there are objects within our line of sight such as trees or buildings,โ saysย NASA astronomer Mitzi Adams. โBecause these relatively close objects are in front of the moon, our brain is tricked into thinking the moon is much closer to the objects that are in our line of sight.โ
In case you didn’t get a chance to marvel at the supermoon over the city last night, these Montrealers snapped some pics so you can relive the lovely lunar event.
