For the third consecutive week, the STM (Société de transport de Montréal) will be handing out over 300,000 reusable face masks throughout its network, an operation that will be carried out until the end of June.
The public transit network says the face coverings will be given away in the metro’s busiest stations and in areas that have been hit hardest by the pandemic.
“It is strongly recommended that you wear face coverings on public transit and in all situations where it is not possible to maintain a sufficient physical distance from others,” states the STM website. “Covering your face should, therefore, be added to other precautions you take, such as cough etiquette and hygiene rules, to stop the spread of the virus.”

The STM warns that the masks are not of the surgical variety and says the face coverings “will not protect you from the COVID-19 virus.”

The transit network says all of its stations are now equipped with contactless hand sanitizer that dispenses disinfectant in 20 seconds — great for riders on the move.
