Quebec is nearing two straight weeks of less than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases

Quebec public health has added 858 new COVID-19 cases, the province’s 12th consecutive day of fewer than 1,000 new cases.
The last time the province reported more than 1,000 new daily cases was on February 12, when 1,049 were announced.
The Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux has added 16 coronavirus-related deaths to the provincial tally, five of which occurred over the past day. Nine deaths were attributed to cases between February 18 and 23, and two were from “earlier in February.”

The number of hospitalizations decreased by 22 compared to Wednesday, for a cumulative total of 633 across Quebec. Among these, the number of people in intensive care increased by eight for a total of 128.
Since Wednesday morning, 8,300 doses of vaccine were administered for a total of 387,076 across the province.
There are now 285,330 COVID-19 cases across the province, 266,879 recoveries, 10,361 deaths, and 2,737,181 negative tests.

On Tuesday, Premier François Legault said Quebec would begin giving the COVID-19 vaccine to the general public.
Being the first prioritized group in the general public, Quebecers aged 85 and older will be able to get the shots starting next week.
Legault said the announcement is “great news” for the province and said, “We see light at the end of the tunnel.”
Legault said in a few weeks, all vulnerable people will be vaccinated across the province and said that while encouraging, it will “take some weeks before the vaccine has its full impact.”
As of February 26, movie cinemas, indoor sports facilities, and pools will be reopening across Quebec red zones next week, in time for March break.
Santé Quebec advises residents to “frequently wash” their hands (for 20 seconds with soap and water), use alcohol-based disinfectant, respect the measures regarding private gatherings, and limit travel as much as possible.
